From the previous entry entitled ‘Learner Profile’, I have analyzed my strengths and weaknesses in English, specific skills for an English teacher and English skills or abilities that I need improvement. The English skill that I would like to improve in order to prepare myself for teaching next semester is progressing on my vocabulary comprehension by using various strategies in learning words. I have realized that knowing a wider vocabulary and their different uses are essential to an English teacher. Not only do these abilities would help me to provide various words to the students, but also encourage me, as a successful communicator, to express my ideas appropriately and effectively.However, a good English teacher must be a good language learner his/herself. This is a basic essential criteria for a teacher who has to be a role model in terms of language studying habits. Therefore, I would like to learn those strategies to build my own vocabulary knowledge before passing these learning experiences to the students.
A Goal for My Self-Study
To progress my vocabulary comprehension by using various strategies in learning words: This will underlie two aspects relating to the goal that I have set for this self-study project.
1. As a language learner in improving and enlarging my own vocabulary comprehension which is intended to advance every aspect of my communication skills – speaking, writing, and understanding what others are saying or have written.
2. As an English teacher who is a good resource in providing various words to the students, a good communicator who expresses the ideas appropriately and effectively.
A Self-Study Plan
In order to achieve the goal, I am concerned that I have to learn strategies in learning vocabulary and also use those approaches to make noticeable development. Therefore, I came up with the first broad schedule which will generally identify each step of my Self-Study. In the following schedule, during the weeks 1 – 4 is the study of learning vocabulary strategies based on the book “Developing Vocabulary for College Thinking” which I will apply all of those approaches in the real vocabulary learning situations in the weeks 5 – 11, I mainly focus on learning words from the contents of 4 current issues which are; Gender, Education, Humanities, and Environment topics since they support the concept of Education for Sustainable Development. I strongly believe that this self-study plan will be highly effective both for my own vocabulary learning and also the students when I employ these useful current topics to the classroom.
